Spin

Once again, Ditherati puts an annoying spin on its daily quote. Today they’ve quoted Microsoft security advisor Stuart Okin:

There’s a balance between getting the security patch out as quickly as possible against the fact that we want to do the best quality testing on that patch.

Ditherati explains the quote as follows:

Microsoft security advisor Stuart Okin, on why it’s better to take a long time fixing a problem than to get it right in the first place.

That’s unfair. Of course we’d all like Microsoft to ship its products without the bonus security holes, but the article that quotes Mr. Okin isn’t about initial software development and release. He was explaining the process of fixing security holes once a product has already shipped–specifically the need to thoroughly test the patch versus the need to fix the software as quickly as possible. I know that Microsoft-bashing is an expected ritual within the technical cognoscenti, but c’mon guys–you can do better than that.
