Y’all versus Youse
Published by Becky S March 8th, 2004 in style & grammarSince I work in New Jersey, I can’t really blog about y’all without also considering youse. It’s North versus South in the battle for second person plural dominance. A quick Google smackdown shows that y’all is the undisputed champion (at least on the internet):
y’all (574,000)
youse (27,800)
PS: Artman.com defines a Google smackdown as follows:
Takes two words or phrases as input, queries Google via its API, and receives the estimated total results for each word or phrase to show which one is most popular. Two words or phrases will go head-to-head in a terabyte tug-of-war. Which one appears in more pages across the Web?
UPDATE: Clarification–I do not live in New Jersey; I just work there.
