Grammar Commies
Published by Becky S April 1st, 2004 in style & grammarWhat is a grammar-conscious, pseudo libertarian supposed to think of this one? In Prague, the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSCM) sponsored an amendment to a media bill that will order “nationally broadcast commercial radio and television stations to use correct grammar in their news programs.” Not surprisingly, some party members have received outraged feedback:
We’ve been fighting for freedom of speech for so long, and now some red brat comes along and tries to dictate to us!
Which pretty much says it all. Luckily, the bill still has to pass the Senate.
By the way, is the Prague Post stealing headlines from stories in the Yale Daily News, or is the “bad grammar of [whoever] a problem up with which I will not put” line just a popular joke in grammarian circles?
