Fonts in the news
Published by Becky S April 15th, 2004 in style & grammarA slew of font-related news yesterday…
Yale University now has its own typeface, designed to be “a kind of core element of [the school’s] identity.” The smart-ass in me wants to steal the font and use it on Good Grief!, but I’d rather not mix it up with a bunch of snooty New England graphic designers.
Somewhere on the other side of the country, The Daily Sentinal reports that Fruita Monument High School suspended a student magazine staffer over a font composed of fornicating stick figures:
On page 23 of The Catalyst’s latest issue, an article by arts and entertainment editor Tannar Veatch features two headlines for a profile on a feminist punk band. The main headline, “Le Tigre,” is written in a font with silhouettes of busty vixens clinging to the letters, “Charlie’s Angels” style.
The second headline says “Femenist (sic) sweepstakes,” in a font with stick figures in various sexual positions forming the letters.
UPDATE: The pornographic font is composed of fornicating stick figures, not comprised of fornicating stick figures. Thanks to the reader who showed me the error of my ways!
UPDATE II: Fixed the links. Thanks to several kind people who pointed out that they weren’t working.

is it bad that the thought of that font CRACKS ME UP! I mean come on–inappropriate yes–but HOW CREATIVE is that.
20,000 points for thinking outside the box. That boy is going places!
