Hot market tips
Published by Becky S April 30th, 2004 in uncategorized, foodOnce again, we present an excerpt from the weekly market report. The report, written by Ken Klein, co-owner of Klein’s Market in Fairmount, Philadelphia, is from yesterday’s Art Museum Area Home News. I will absolutely go to Klein’s next week and request permission to keep doing this.

- Asparagus: harvesting continues in northern California and Washington State has begun. The market continues to be strong. This is due to lighter yields and strong demand. Quality is great.
- Eggplant: has finally come down in price. You might even find some at your favorite store this week. For the past weeks, it has been hard to find and totally expensive.
- Grapes: Good White Seedless Grapes are hard to find and price continues to go up. Since Whites are tight and expensive, the market is higher on Red Seedless.
- Blueberries: are now being harvested from Florida. The first arrival was outstanding with great color, size, and firmness. Florida’s season will be about a month.
- Cataloupes: have jumped up in price drastically. Product will be limited and demand has been on the increase as the warmer weather approaches. The fruit looks great but the taste is “iffy.”
This is actually pretty interesting stuff. If Mr. Klein won’t let you continue posting this, I may have to actually read the Home News rather than just continue throwing it on my neighbor’s front stoop.
hmph–he says NOTHING about milk which went up a $$ a gallon at walmart this week.
at this rate i am going to have to get pregnant and start lactating again to feed my family.
Dana, how will you handle a request from a neighbor to borrow a cup of milk?
LOL! Just read this! Well, judy, obviously there will be a charge–but i promise to be less than local large market conglomerate value!
Just don’t expect mass production as i work on one teat only, ok?
