The latest pager revenge scheme! The first scheme—abusing the pager—is still in effect. However, one must always think long-term. The new plan is a little geeky; at the risk of sounding like one of the dreaded propeller-heads, here it is. As I said in a comment last week, the idea is to broadcast boss-across-the-hall updates throughout the organization (a hospital):

  1. The implementation of a company intranet portal (think of it as a My Yahoo! for the workplace) has recently become a high priority.
  2. There is a free (?) plug-in for our portal software that will display RSS feeds.
  3. Unfortunately, boss-across-the-hall heard me asking a sales rep about the RSS plug-in, so he knows that something’s afoot.
  4. Luckily, Slippery GI, our database administrator, is always willing to try something new. I demonstrated a potential “value add” by finding some healthcare-related RSS feeds, and he’s on board.
  5. Slippery GI will install and test the plug-in, and we’ll razzle-dazzle everyone by displaying fresh and relevant content on our intranet.
  6. Then it’s a simple matter of sneaking a Good Grief! feed in somewhere.

Of course, I have to figure out how boss-across-the-hall can have a separate RSS feed, lest stories about internet guy and the Phillie Phanatic start making the rounds at the hospital.

Did everyone follow that? Even if you didn’t, trust me—it’s a great plan.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your last few entries. You have a sharp, biting wit, and I like that. :–)

Thanks, Theresa–not everyone sees the sharp, biting thing as a positive quality!
