Hot market tips?
Published by Becky S July 1st, 2004 in uncategorized, foodI haven’t received a Market Report in the inbox for the last week or two. I’m hoping that Ken Klein is merely on vacation and hasn’t stopped writing his column. Since I can’t share Ken’s expertise this week, all I can do is pass along my own observations. It’s a poor substitute:
- Superwoman and her husband are harvesting some big-ass zucchini in the community garden,* so it must be time for the killer big-ass zucchini.
- The red peppers at Iovine Brothers yesterday were shiny, beautiful, and reasonably priced. I cut one up and dipped it into Trader José’s Chipotle Pepper Hummus.
- Jersey blueberries are all over the place.
- I went to three different stores and didn’t see any decent spinach.
Uh, let’s hope that the real Market Report will be coming back soon.
* The community garden is a groovy place where urban dwellers can get their own plot of land for growing food, herbs, and flowers. I am in charge of Superwoman’s plot this weekend! All hail the interim zucchini queen!

And thanks so much to Becky S for tending to the garden in our absence. She claims a thief stole a giant zucchini from the garden. Luckily I know how much she hates the slimy vegetable or I’d be suspicious! Has she brought any zucchini bread to work lately???
I weep at such an accusation! I swear there was no zucchini in the garden this weekend. Although I did give last week’s crop to my downstairs neighbor who’s a baker. See how that works? Superwoman grows the zucchini, I pick it and give it to the downstairs neighbor, and then I get zucchini bread.
