I hesitate to use the word Photoshop, however. There really was an Amish kid on rollerblades–that part was not digitally enhanced.

Honestly, I was hoping it would be like “Devil’s Playground,” a documentary about Amish kids in rumspringa. Not a chance. Amish in the City is one of the worst reality shows out there. (That’s really not saying much.) Most of the city kids seem like actors anyway — especially the crazy vegan girl.

Dave, have you seen the show? Alas, I have no UPN reception. It sounds pretty bad:

Seldom has a reality show gathered a more obnoxious set of stereotypes…For these folks, the Amish are simply a sideshow: They spend most of the premiere fighting among themselves and proclaiming their God-given right to “hook up” on national TV.

Yet as hateful as the show’s urban bad examples can be, City may have found a star in Ariel, the radical vegan who calls eggs “chicken abortions” and thinks cows come from outer space. At least that gives the Amish kids a good laugh and distracts them from the rude behavior that otherwise constantly comes their way from their supposedly sophisticated roommates. Clearly, their parents have spent too much time boosting their self-esteem and too little teaching them rudimentary manners.

Anyway, in the pilot, the city kids had to wear traditional Amish garb. So, here’s the kicker: Everyone complied, but the guys wore their Amish shirts… COLLARS UP.
