Mortensen, Bush, Kerry, and the Ukies
Published by Becky S August 26th, 2004 in miscellaneous fluff
The weekend plans are in shambles. Shambles! First of all, “Gypsy” writes in: “I hate to burst your bubble but…I don’t believe Mr. Mortensen has been staying awake at night waiting for your positive reply to go out with him.” Well, Gypsy, you are wrong. Seriously, though, peruse some of the recent comments on this post. People on the Internet sure are weird (yourself excluded, of course)
Also, neither Senator Kerry nor President Bush has responded to my invitation for a late-night Geno’s cheesesteak trip. Senator Kerry was in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, and he didn’t call or anything.
Finally, tomorrow’s Quizzo night at the Ukrainian League of Philadelphia (aka, the Ukie Club) is off. Oh, they’re still having it, but J the Obscure and I are scared to go because “this month’s Quizzo will feature numerous Ukrainian-themed questions, in honor of Ukrainian Independence.” It’s disappointing, but work is already underway to assemble a crack team for next month.

Wow that is cool! Would the Ukies, take it kindly if I called them Ukies? I thought the appropriate term was “Ukaranians”.
I know nothing about the Ukraine. Actually wait, a guy in my writer’s group has been there several times. I think he even lived there for a few years. I have to invite him and possibly beg him to share the price we will certainly win.
Well, I figured if the URL is ukiebar.com, it’s ok to call them Ukies? Or maybe you’re only allowed to call Ukrainians Ukies if you’re Ukrainian?
If you guys win the prize, let us know. I wonder what the prize is?
Becky, do you think it wise to reveal to the blogosphere our strategy? What if our potential competitors are fans of your big butt blog.
