Mix of the week: don’t get mad–sing!
Published by Becky S January 20th, 2005 in arts
A new mix of the week is here. The theme? Don’t do your woman wrong, or else she will record a song about you and become famous, and then you’ll be sorry. No, no one’s done me wrong (that I know of); I was inspired by hearing Aimee Mann on the Doobies jukebox last Friday.
- Aimee Mann – That’s Just What You Are
- Liz Phair – 6′1″
- The Casual Dots – Evil Bumblebee
- Fiery Furnaces – Single Again
- Fiona Apple – Limp
- Kirsty MacColl – Englad 2, Columbia 0
- Macy Gray – Why Didn’t You Call Me?
- Janis Joplin – Piece of My Heart
- Neko Case & Her Boyfriends – Twist the Knife
- Susan Werner - Ain’t I Lonely Tonight
Play the mix here; as always, there’s a permanent mix of the week link on the right-hand sidebar.

I’d like to add two songs to your “he done did me wrong” list:
Alanis - You Oughta Know
Mariah - Someday
Wouldn’t “you’re so vain” fit in here?
Huh…you were at Doobies last Fri? I peeked in and it was way too crowded so we went someplace else.
Ooo the near brushes I have with fame.
Thanks for the suggestions! You guys are right–those fit right in with the theme, though I don’t have the mp3s. I was amazed at how easy it was to go through my own music collection and find “done me wrong” songs.
Dang, Sam, that’s the second time we’ve narrowly missed one another. I was at Doobies right after work–maybe 6:15. It wasn’t too crowded yet.
Poe has a lot of “psycho ex” songs, too. Trigger Happy Jack once reminded me WAY too much of an ex who overstayed his welcome.
Oh, Aimee Mann. I need to get some music of hers, methinks. All good choices for the mix, though.
