Recent disruptions to Philadelphia’s ecosystem
Published by Becky S May 2nd, 2005 in philadelphia, wtf?Strange things are afoot in the City of Brotherly Love that Loves You Back:
- Helis, the confused Beluga whale who was hanging around Trenton two weeks ago, took a wrong turn up the Schuylkill River and ended up in Philadelphia.
- The Phillie Phanatic is stuck in a helicopter.
- The dreaded Frankenfish is on the loose in FDR park.
What’s the connection? Are bioterrorists out to annihilate the city’s ecosystem? Did Mayor Street and his cronies bribe whale Helis to show up and divert the public’s attention from the corruption trials? Did a mad scientist clone the Frankenfish? Will the Phanatic be able to save us from this madness?
Stay tuned.
john street nature phanatic Philadelphia wtf?
“The Place That Loves You Back”… as opposed to all those other places that laughed at you and told you to get lost. Seems like Philly’s fishing for the “low self-esteem” crowd, which might not be such a bad idea — you could probably guilt trip them into spending considerable amounts of discretionary income during their stay. Especially on Tastykake.
The self esteem thing is an astute observation. Back in the 70’s, an ad campaign for Philly was “Philadelphia - it’s not as bad as Philadelphians say it is.”
I nominate “Philadephia: You Probably Would’ve Ended Up Here Anyway”.
How about, “Philadelphia:Chosen Home of the Frankenfish”? My tennis team practices and plays matches in FDR park 2-3 times a week, very close to one of the “lakes.” I wonder if we could train the fish/snakes to eat the old tennis balls.
I wonder who would win in a fight, the Frankenfish or the FDR Park crack squirrels? My money would be on the squirrels.
I think that fish is taking a vacation from the cold climes of the northern . . . uh . . . wherever she’s from . . . in sunny, warm . . . polluted and oft not-inviting . . . philadelphia . . . rivers
ok never mind that theory
