Be honest…

White_door

The white door looks ridiculous, doesn’t it? I have to paint it, don’t I?

In other news, I was finally able to make another Philly blogger meetup on Saturday, where I spent most of the time listening to Chris and Albert hatch a business scheme to make money by clubbing baby seals. Luna, Melissa, Albert, Neo, and Scott, the Philly Future event czar, also wrote about the festivities.

While all of this was going on, someone else was hypothetically making secret chili that I hypothetically cannot have the recipe for. Hypothetically, the chili was delicious.

Finally, I got an email today from Brad:

hi,

do you have any hot pics of yourself I can have? Like your butt in tight pants.

Don’t be silly, Brad. How can I take a picture of my own butt?

The masking tape clouds the issue a bit, but I think I’ll have to agree with you that the door could stand to be a little less contrast-y.

Don’t you just love the inappropriate e-mails? I was getting quite a few of those after I set up a MySpace account that will eventually be used to promote my band. They’ve subsided since I updated my profile to say “married.” Hee!

Yeah, definitely needs to be painted…perhaps a nice dark brown? I don’t know, a warm color? something that goes with your decor?

NOOO…do not paint the door. Paint the trim a semi-gloss white instead and paint the door the same color if you can’t match the trim color to the door color. You need contrast in a room or everything will blend together and look bland.

The trim includes the trim around the floor, the door and the window (if the window has trim).

don’t paint it! it looks surreal.

hmm… it looks like you’ve already made up your mind about painting the door. I’d say that the white needs to be toned down a little, at the least.

Brad Pitt asked for a pic of your butt??

Hmmm…thanks for the opinions so far. Raul, I deliberately painted the trim/baseboards the same color as the wall. I read somewhere that this trick can make a small room with a low ceiling look larger. I am planning to paint the opposite wall with a contrasting color, and I have a lot of colorful prints, so this should mitigate risk of blandness.

I just didn’t realize that painting the door trim would make the rest of the door look so….white.

Live and learn. Luna, I hadn’t thought about a contrasting door color.

Albert, can seal-clubbers be trusted to give interior decorating advice?

Brad Pitt–now there’s a man with good taste.

Paint the door the same color as the opposite wall. That’s what I think anyway.

Umm, first, whatever happened to the Market Report? I liked hearing about what was yummy and seasonal back east.
Second, you could try painting the inset panels in a shade that either matches or is similar to your wall color, breaking up the white but giving a cool geometric pattern.
    Third - love the blog!

I say paint the hell out of that door! I’ve been thinking of painting my apartment, but I HATE painting.

And, I’m glad you could make it to the meetup, even if you didn’t have a d8.

Hm.. To Paint or Not To Paint?

I’m torn. Part of likes the contrast. The other part wants to scream out that you paint it. So I’ll go with Yoko’s suggestion, just tone it down a little.

You want honesty? The white door is the least of your color problems!

I’ve got to disagree with the dude above me. I love the wall color, but I agree with you completely, you’ve got to paint the door. I’m thinking black maybe? Or something to match your furniture or throw rugs or something? White is just way too stark. Good Luck.

Paint it the color of the ceiling or the opposite wall, or the same color. Take your pick.

Leave white background. In each panel, paint or place pictures of famous celebrities looking in to see if you just might be home!

    Becky-

I like the color, and the door may need to be painted, depending on the furniture and the flooring. Keep us posted.

    Happy Belated Gobble Gobble.

Paint the door a tame yellow.

Sorry, that email was supposed to go to someone else.

green, that door is crying out to be green. have you painted it yet?

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 Becky

Nope, won’t get around to painting the door until after the holidays. I was going to try a yellowish-off-white just to tone down the contrast a bit. Green, eh?
