Hey, someone clicked on the About page!
This is my weblog. Though I’m an information technology professional, I take pride in being a luddite: My calendar syncs via pen, my television is cable-less, and I only got a cell phone because The Man made me do it.
I recently bought a beautiful house in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. Not because Fishtown is up-and-coming and is supposedly full of artistic hipsters, but because Fishtown is where I could afford to buy a beautiful house. I like living there, except when the neighbors throw headless dolls into the yard.
For many, many years I worked in New Jersey. Though this setup had its advantages (cheaper gas and a better wine selection than Pennsylvania), I am extremely excited to be working in Center City Philly once again and to be commuting via public transportation. Even more exciting is working on a beautiful campus in West Philadelphia, a hub of urban student life. Not to mention a hub of outstanding restaurants and food trucks.
Hobbies include reading, drinking good beer, traveling (especially to Utah and other parts of the Southwestern United States), baking, and taking advantage of living in a major metropolitan area—theatre, restaurants, live music, the usual.
I’m also fascinated by the social impact of technology. I started this website as a place to write, but it somehow turned into something that resulted in new friends, a job, and a relationship.
I don’t hate many things, but I do hate partisan politics. People who make character assessments, decisions about friendships and relationships, and sweeping generalizations based on someone’s political party are small-minded, juvenile, and counterproductive. And so-called liberals with that attitude are even worse, since those who claim to be progressive should be held to a higher standard.
That’s the current stuff. Ancient history:
- I grew up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in the small town of Lititz. Did you know that the first pretzel in the United States was made in Lititz?
- My undergraduate degree (in English) is from James Madison University, in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
- My graduate degree (MSIS) is from Drexel University, in Philadelphia Pennsylvania
- Growing up, I decided to be either the first female president of the United States or the first female in major league baseball. Sadly, Hillary may beat me to the former, and I’m too old for the latter.
